Introduction
The Dongxing-Jiugang Canal is the longest leading canal in the Hsinchu area, extending 2.365 kilometers. Besides its agricultural benefits of supplying water to the Dongxing and Jiugang Canals through the roundabout's regulation and storage, it also serves civic purposes by drawing and allocating water from the Longen Weir. The Dongxing Canal retains ancient submerged weirs and orifices along its route to overcome irrigation challenges posed by uneven terrain while maintaining downstream ecological and scenic benefits. The Jiugang Canal preserves rural characteristics, utilizing water wheels powered by canal flow for rice milling, and features quaint water intakes and weirs. The surplus water extends to the XinShe Canal, linking the southwestern part of Zhubei's overall Touqian River irrigation system, supporting the lifeline of nearly 1,043 hectares of farmland.
